How to play
TurboBall
Rocket soccer in your browser. Fly a boost-powered ship around the arena, knock the glowing ball into the other team's goal, and score more than them before the clock runs out.
The goal of the game
Each match is played in a closed arena with a goal at each end. Your ship never touches the ball with anything but its body, so you score by flying into the ball hard enough, at the right angle, to send it into the opponent's net. The team with more goals when time runs out wins. If the score is level, the match goes to sudden-death overtime: the next goal wins.
Controls
Your ship only moves when you boost. Turning spins it on the spot without pushing it anywhere, and boost never runs out, so you can hold it as long as you like.
| Action | Player 1 or solo | Player 2 (same keyboard) |
|---|---|---|
| Turn | A D, or ← → when playing alone | ← → |
| Boost | W, Space or Shift, or ↑ when playing alone | ↑, Enter or right Shift |
| Pause | Esc |
Gamepads
Plug in a controller and press a button. Steer with the left stick or the d-pad, and boost with A or the right trigger.
Phones and tablets
Turn your phone sideways. Two turn buttons sit on the left and a large Boost button on the right. You can slide your thumb from one turn button to the other without lifting it, and hold Boost with your other thumb at the same time.
Easy steering
New to games like this? In Settings → Keyboard steering, choose Easy: point and fly. Press the arrow keys or WASD in the direction you want to go, and the ship turns and flies that way by itself.
Ways to play
- Play: one-on-one against a robot. Pick Easy, Medium or Hard. Easy robots are forgiving while you learn; Hard robots attack fast, guard their goal and rarely give you a free shot.
- Team up: you and a robot teammate against two robots.
- Free play: just you and the ball, with no robots and no clock. Practise shots and aerials for as long as you like.
- Same screen: two people on one keyboard, blue against orange.
- Play online: jump into a match with players from anywhere.
- Invite friend: create a private room and send the six-letter code or the invite link. Rooms can be one-on-one or two-on-two, and any empty seat in a two-on-two is filled by a robot.
- Join friend: type in a friend's code to join their room.
Match settings
For robot and same-screen matches you choose the match length (1, 2, 3 or 5 minutes), the ball speed (Slow, Normal, Fast or Insane), the gravity (Zero-G, Low, Normal or Heavy) and whether power-ups appear. Zero-G turns the arena into open space: nothing falls, so every touch matters.
Rules worth knowing
- Demolitions. Crash into an opponent at full speed and their ship explodes. They're out for three seconds, then come back with a moment of protection. Use it to clear a defender out of the goal mouth.
- Power-ups. When they're switched on, pickups appear in the arena. Speed makes your ship faster for a while, and Magnet pulls the ball toward you.
- Overtime. A tied match doesn't end in a draw against the clock: the next goal wins it.
- Own goals count for the other team, so be careful clearing the ball near your own net.
Coins, gems and your garage
Every match pays out coins: 10 for playing, 25 more for a win, and 5 for each goal you score and each save you make. After a match you can watch an ad to double them. You also earn coins from quests (short goals such as "score three goals" or "win a match") and from the daily reward of 150 coins and 10 gems. Every three wins raises your level.
Spend coins in the Garage on new ships, paint colours, boost trails and goal explosions, or on Rookie cases. Gems open the rarer Turbo and Elite cases, or buy a case-only item outright. Case odds are shown before you open one, and nothing in the game costs real money. If you get something you already have, you keep the extra copy. Anything you own, apart from the starter items, can be sold in the Garage for coins: half its shop price, or a set amount by rarity for case items. Watching a short ad is always optional: it can earn you 100 coins, 15 gems or a free Ad Crate. Got more coins than you need? Swap 500 of them for 50 gems in Store → Earn rewards, as often as you like (with a short ad each time, when ads are running).
Look out for seasonal codes, entered under Store → Earn rewards: HALLOWEEN (October 25 to 31) gives one of every case, CHRISTMAS (December 24 and 25) gives a Christmas Gift Case with only Epic and Legendary prizes, and NEWYEAR (December 31 to January 2) gives a case named after the year that opens three prizes at once.
The most expensive item in the shop is Goal Blast, a 5,000-coin goal explosion: when you score with it equipped, time freezes, the camera slams in on the ball, and a beam tears across the arena.
Tips from the arena
- Turn first, then boost. Because turning doesn't move you, line up behind the ball before you hit boost, and you'll send it where you aimed.
- Hit the ball from below to lift it over a defender, and from above to drive it along the floor.
- Use the walls. The ball bounces cleanly off the sides and ceiling. A bank shot is often easier than a straight one.
- Don't all chase the ball. In two-on-two, one player attacks while the other stays back between the ball and your goal.
- Short taps of boost keep you hovering in place while you wait for the ball to come down.
- Demolish the keeper. A goalkeeper sitting still is an easy target for a full-speed hit.
